How Do We Know About Chakras?
Where does information about these mysterious-seeming energy centers come from? It comes from the yogis of ancient India, including the great modern yogi Paramhansa Yogananda, the author of the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi.
Great yogis speak not from book learning but from their experience of the divine. From them, we have come to learn about the nature of the chakras and the qualities they possess.
Yogananda’s direct disciple, Swami Kriyananda, explained the chakras in more detail in his talks and writings. These, in turn, formed the basis for the book Chakras for Starters by Nayaswami Savitri — the book on which this website is based.
If you meditate deeply, you too may experience the chakras as living realities. Then they can become more than just a curiosity or intellectual concept; they will become living “joy factories” that you carry with you always.
